DIY Cork Board Art

Hey everyone! Did you all hear my big news about the new baby (HERE)? I've been over the moon excited! I can't wait to start working on the nursery. But in the meanwhile, let me share some more tutorials from June's new room (see the full reveal HERE)!

We had a dingy old cork board that I "stole" from my parents when they moved, and I wanted to do something fun with it for our new home. At first, I was going to sharpie a herringbone accent wall in June's room. Silas said no. Flat out no. Wahhh! Hahaha... he was probably right. It would have overwhelmed the space.

So I decided to incorporate my beloved herringbone pattern in some large wall art instead.

Then my mind started ticking: Herringbone + Cork Board!

To make my Cork Board Art, I had to paint over the cork first. We tried spray paint first, but it soaked it up like crazy. So we took out the roller and added some bright white paint. Cork is very porous, so it ended up needing like 4-5 coats to get the pure white coverage I wanted.

By the way, I just used regular wall paint for this.

Then I got out my highlighter sharpie thing. I tired out several brands, but this pen from Staples was the one that matched the color I was going for.

To do a herringbone pattern, you will need a thin strip of painter's tape, as shown above, and a regular thick piece for the outer edge. Now draw lines until your wrist cramps.

And to think, I was going to do this to a whole wall! Haha! My hands would have fallen off from all the lines!
